Graduate of decorative arts at the school Estienne in Paris, Grégoire Korkanow started photography at 23 yo and followed the upheavals of the ex-soviet world, in Russia, in ex-Yougoslavia, in Albania. In 1993 starts a ten-year collaboration with the national daily newspaper Libération. He then worked with many French and international papers: l’Express, Télérama, Marie Claire, Géo, National Geographic, The New York Times… In 1998, he integrates the Agency Métisse, then joins Rapho in 2002.

From 1998 to 2008 he founds and directs the collection of photography books Avoir 20 ans (Being 20), editied by Alternative. In 2001 he takes part in the creation of the photo magazine de l’air, that is exhibited ten years later at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie. He alternates works of commandand personal series, including : Père et fils  (Father and son), Coulisses (Backstage), Hardcoprs (Hardcore), Gueules cassées (Broken faces), Patagonie (Patagonia)… that are exhibited in France and internationally and published. His latest serie,  Sortie de scène (Stage exit), explores the still bodies of contemporary dancers backstage, right after the shows of Montpellier Danse 2014. Since January 2011 he photographs places of incarceration in France, for the general inspector of all places of deprivation of liberty. This work will be exhibited at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie in 2015.

In parallel he creates photographic sequences with sound for documentary films: À côté / Next to them by Stéphane Mercurio, released in cinemas in 2009; Voyage au coeur de l’alcool(isme) / Trip to the heart of Alcohol(ism) by Christophe Otzenberger, shown on national television channel France 2 in 2010; À l’ombre de la République / In the shadow of the Republic by Stéphane Mercurio, shown on Canal + in 2011. Since 2010 he directs films and short movies gathered in the Chroniques dansées collection, distributed in 2014.  He will also sign the video installations for the next show of the choreographer Sylvain Groud, planned for 2015.

He taught photography in 2012 at the Paris 1 University and regularly holds workshops at the Rencontres photographique of Arles.
